Ugly Dolls

Natalie and Natasha graced our apartment with their wonderful presence.

Photos from Natasha's last day in New York. Got to see things I haven't seen myself:

A promotional show "Lie to Me" where people on 5th Ave. got to share lies they've told other people. Natasha and I wrote "We'd love for you to come with us!" (in the center):
Ron Arad's "No Discipline" retrospective at MoMA:It was so cool; everything was warped and chrome, we felt like we were in a dream (got a bit dizzy from the overwhelmingly huge structures inside).

Then walked up Fifth Ave. to FAO Schwartz:Obsessed with Ugly Dolls:Finished off the day with walking down the High Line at sun set:Walked down the stairs and landed at Pastis to eat the most divine steak avec Bearnaise sauce ever.

Then went to this Panty Hos party in Williamsburg full of skinny lesbians with short hair, gauged ears and backpacks.

It was closest day to perfection I've ever experienced.

I already miss Natasha terribly, and Nat even though she miraculously ripped our closet door out of its hinges as a souvenir of her drunken visit:
Fashion week is also going on, the Calvin show was well-received! Chris Kane's gingham was divine, A. Wang's was great and Bottega was so effortlessly elegant (my favorite so far). Waiting for Lanvin, Balenciaga, Yohji, Stella, Bruno, Undercover and Comme. EXCITED (save the best for last).

The new and final school year looks pretty good so far; making new friends and getting closer to old ones. More adventures to come soon, hopefully one that includes a visit to Australia in the near future.

Whoops.

My last year of school is well underway, and the Spring 2010 Calvin Klein show is premiering in T-minus 5 days. The pace of senior thesis is accelerating and went from 0-60 in what feels like a split second.

Everything's pretty good. Aside from school and work and babies, I don't have much time for anything else, let alone rest.

Nat and Natasha are in the States, and will be gracing us with their presence next weekend <3

Icebergs left on my palette after I rinsed off the gouache!
The last days of summer from my window:Happy Fashion week! (?)

The Most Loving Shelter

The past weeks have been difficult. My hopes are that the coming academic year will bring about lots of change as well as a fresh start--that's all I want really.

Work, however, has been really great. Despite work being physically- and mentally- (at times emotionally-) draining, I really enjoy working with such a fun-loving and talented group of people. The collection is coming along (slowly but surely) quite beautifully. It's the reason behind the lack of updates and progress on designing my senior thesis.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to get away to Shelter Island for my last(?) vacation before school. There's a trip booked for Vegas on September 12th with Nat and Natasha. After all the stupidness I've had to deal with last week, spending the weekend with the loving delicious babiez was really exactly what my broken spirits needed.

The weather was perfect, the beach was perfect, everything was perfect.

We jumped on the new trampoline (Frankie took these!):
Frankie did some tumbles:Went to the beach of course:Maybe I spent too much time in the sun because I feel so tired and my brain is like, not functioning.

Time to get crackin' on homework because school starts in 2 weeks!!!!!

Grizzly Bear, Take II

Grizzly Bear performed at Town Hall this evening, and they were amazing. Duh.

I want to marry Ed Droste:

Chris Taylor and my husband on guitar:
Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen:Chris Taylor singing his heart out:
They performed most of the tracks from Veckatimest, just released this past Tuesday, and Knife, and Little Brother and others. The a capella bridge during While You Wait for Others was the best part of the whole show. All amazing stuff. Nico Muhly was lurking in the dark behind a grand piano too.

I sat second row from the stage and soaked up every second of the show. Ed Droste's singing sent chills down my spine several times. Love love love swoon swoon swoon.

Some pictures from an amazing week on Shelter Island.

Renée and John's beautiful house (I love that fan):
This amazing dish and lid we found at a yard sale for $1!My infected and very itchy cut from scraping the shells while riding the current at the beach:
1960's Chevy Impala I drove:
Ridiculously huge steering wheel and dashboard:Around town:I'm a bit sad to be back in the noisy city, but look forward to being back to CK on Monday.

Hopefully I'll get to take new pictures of the super-cutie not-quite-babies soon. Had such a great weekend with them, as always.

I know this is terribly overdue. The Junior Mini-Thesis Show was a success. Our entire class worked so hard and it all showed; the faculty was very impressed with the level of craftsmanship that turned out. They're holding high expectations for us next year.

Some of my personal favorite collections that made it to the top 40 in the auditorium on mannequins. It was pretty official with the nameplats and spotlights and mannequins:

Melissa Marcial's menswear inspired by sleep patterns:
Sam Green's very versatile collection jump-started from Schiele:Maria Robla:Lauren Greenland's architecturally draped collection (I want it):Leslie Jones'. The center dress is layers of cotton with cut-outs (amazing):Finally, my first child, inspired by, Zaha Hadid's Chanel Mobile Art Pod/Modernism vs. Post-Modernism/Industrialism/Whatever-the-hell-else-I-felt-like-doing:
Look 1:
Blazer - sunblock vinyl with steel Bemberg lining
Tank - cotton ottoman
Pant - cotton twill with steel poly-lycra panels

Look 2:
Pushed side seam and shoulder seam dress - Steel and white cotton ottoman with full cotton lining
Bag - Croc skin embossed lambskin leather

Look 3:
Vest - Nappa Valley Lambskin
Shirtdress - Cotton picquéEllen Tracy white shirts, the final products. Apparently all the shirts sold out at Bloomie's within 2 days. A second delivery is scheduled for August where some of the shirts will be made in black.

All the ups and downs of getting to this point was worth it. Great things are in store for next year.
