Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom performed at Carnegie Hall tonight for the final show of her tour. It felt like an out-of-body experience.

Nike WHQ

Currently Listening to:
"Beyond Reason" - Philip Selway

Whoops it's been forever.

Went to Portland, OR to visit Nike! I stayed at the amazinggg Hotel Lucia downtown:
The streets are so clean! And the bus stations have really nice flat TV screens to show when the next bus is coming!
The foliage in Beaverton (aka Niketon):
Took advantage of shopping at the employee store. It was HUGE inside:
That's the Mia Hamm building (amazing):
Possibly Tiger Woods building:
Such a gorgeous campus. I had to drive from one end to the other!!!

I'm back on the BPC juice cleanse (4 days). Made it through Day 1 and my stomach is soooo flat right now I can see my hipbones. Loves.

It's cold.

Trampolines

Too bad Lala shut down and I can't post a song to go with this. :(

Rainy weekend on Shelter Island. Still had fun jumping on the trampoline (and spraining my bad knee) and playing ping pong.

Here was a hilarious Lego add-on: a full-on beard!!!
The kids are getting so big:
But still kids:
Striped paper cups!!! How amazing is that?!
Work has been really good. Now I'm starting a hunt for an apartment in Chelsea by my lonesome. It will be better that way, though definitely more expensive.

Debut tomorrow evening!

Charlotte Gainsbourg, Take II

Charlotte Gainsbourg finished her North American tour at Webster Hall. I went to see her again, duh. The second time around was even better than the first! She seems to have gained confidence from all her performances. She even plays the synth now. Charlotte wore a slinky white tank with Balenciaga pants; she's kind of perfect:
Next up: Kings of Convenience in the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philly on June 1st. Then La Roux at Terminal 5 on June 7th. Excited!

Everything is really good right now, after some rough patches. Annual Parsons Benefit is tonight at Chelsea Piers. It's like college prom, except way better.

Thesis Shoot

I don't think I've had a crazier day than today ever. Seriously.

The photo studio (Alex Ho), hair & makeup (Mallory Schlau), model (Hannah Sobisky of DNA), and moral support (Camille Wong) was booked for 12pm. I woke up early to sew a belt for my piece, then went to the factory to pick up the coat, which of course, wasn't ready until 12pm. Then ran back to Chelsea to pick up the rest of the collection. Then ran to photo studio for the shoot. Got there around 12:30pm. I had several ulcers along the way of course. So much running around, texting, waiting, texting, calling, running, schlepping, multi-tasking this morning.

But the best part was, the shoot. The model was perfect. Everything was beautiful and amazing. Seeing the clothes in motion really made it all worth it. It was the most rewarding experience by far. Seeing this vision in my head almost a year ago evolve and truly come to life is beyond what words can describe.

Alex shooting gorgeous Hannah:
Snippets of what is to come in linesheet and lookbook:The best is yet to come!

So happy and a big thanks to Alex Ho and Mal and Camille and Hannah today.

My Love Belongs to Only ONE Author

I'm on this quest to read all of Kurt Vonnegut's writings. Crawling upstairs into bed and reading a bit of this great satirical author's writing is something I look forward to every night. He's just...so funny and brilliant.

So far I've accomplished only 3 of his 15+ books.

Slaughterhouse Five was the book I read at Mary Louis that had me head over heels forever. I laughed, I cried (well, maybe not).
I definitely laughed to tears at Vonnegut's brilliantly simple drawings in Breakfast of Champions.A futuristic look from afar on the relationship between humans and the universe. As Esquire reviewed it, "...He dares not only to ask the ultimate question about the meaning of life, but to answer it." My favorite so far.Now I'm onto this one, supposedly the closest Vonnegut ever comes to a memoir.:On another note, my allergies are flaring up in the mornings, which means....Spring is finally rolling around!! I feel like a whole different girl under sun and warm weather.

Thesis is due in exactly 3 weeks!

Fashion Week Surfing

Fashion Month
has been pretty amazing. I love waking up to seeing the new shows and reading all the Tweets from the editors and [especially] Cathy Horyn. Many designers are also streaming their shows live (Jil Sander, Calvin Klein, Prada) which, as silly/creepy as it sounds, makes it really exciting to watch the show and all the people arrive. I got to watch Anna Wintour run past the webcam towards the end of Jil Sander's finale.

Also got to go to the Marc by Marc show with Frankie (her first fashion show ever!). She was such a great sport being in the rain and waiting to get into the Armory. All the flash photography and fabulosity and watching Mommy in action was more than enough to keep her fascinated while waiting for the show to start. It was so last minute I didn't even get to bring my camera, so my Crackberry had to suffice. All the clothes were so desirable and I imagine the shoes selling out days after they hit the store:
Also liked (but LOVED her seasons past) Céline by Phoebe Philo. She's so beautiful and talented and really bringing the line to being front-runner as one of the leading sportswear houses today.
Kind of died over Stella McCartney too. I'm glad she returned to her Bespoke tailoring roots with minimalist influences in nude, black, white and pop colors here and there:
Finally, someone has been doing things right back at Maison Martin Margiela (thank GOD). I almost wonder if they sent out those shitty collections to make it clear that Mr. Margiela has quitté his maison. I was really happy to see that it's been placed in good hands. Like, REALLY HAPPY:And of course, without fail (ever) Raf Simons for Jil Sander inspired by Lara Croft in Tombraider (complete with Angelina Jolie's voiceover from the original motion soundtrack). The unspeakable things I would do for a pair of those boots next year....:

There were lots more, of course. But anyway, all in all it was a very exciting month.

Joanna Newsom's new triple album "Have One on Me" is also out. Duh. She's been receiving a lot of publicity nowadays. I think this album can appeal to a wider audience, but still keeps all the complex compositions that I love so so so dearly. If time/finances allow, I will be flying to Nashville, TN to see her in concert with Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Peknold. It's on the day of birthday, one week before senior thesis is due. It's AMAZING. Give it a chance.

Alley Cats

SNOW DAY

If the wind slows down a bit, I can see the snow chunks float around the air like fireflies. I like when everything is white.

"I sometimes worry that individuality has encouraged a kind of fake intellectuality that makes it hard to see and judge things for what they really are."

-Cathy Horyn, This Is How It Really Is
