We're on spring break for the week and the weather is getting warmer (thank goodness). Things are pretty good but I can't wait for summer already, duh.

For now though I'll be listening to new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and catching up on some work. Will take pictures soon.

Reprise

Currently Listening to:
Grizzly Bear - Reprise

Last night the Brooklyn Philharmonic presented Grizzly Bear (with Final Fantasy) at the Howard Gilman Opera House. Last year I got to see Joanna Newsom at this series and it was probably the best show I've ever had the chance to enjoy. Grizzly Bear was just as incredible:

The music was re-written for orchestral compostion by Nico Muhly, who studied at Julliard and worked under Phillip Glass(!). Muhly has done many film scores, the most recent being The Reader (one of my favorites). He was performing on stage with the band at the piano.

Grizzly Bear's vocal harmonies are entrancing, and backed by the BP, conducted by Michael Christie, the whole ensemble was really breathtaking. The sound was set perfectly and the bass was deep enough to be felt in the soul. The theatre was as beautiful as I remembered and the whole evening felt surreal. Trey and I sat in row CC, third row from the stage in the orchestra pit.

There were a few moments when Edward Drost and Daniel Rossen's vocal crescendo was backed by the orchestra and I felt really emotional.

Photography was prohibited (and rightfully so), and I'm still waiting for more pictures of Grizzly Bear with the Brooklyn Philharmonic to surface.

Edit: They surfaced. These are from Ryan Muir for stereogum.com.
