Here Comes the Sun Again

Currently Listening to:
M. Ward - Here Comes the Sun Again

It's so hot. So I stay at the River Park by the water until the sun goes down.
My favorite place on this island:Hello New Jersey! My apartment (the one on the left), naturally:Mmmm school is getting wrapped up and we're in for the home stretch! There's still plenty of work to do and this nice weather has certainly been distracting. At this point I hate all but the model's look in this "Mini-Thesis" and want to scrap it all.

Tomorrow is Kristin's second fitting for the finished lambskin vest and cotton piqué shirt-dress; I'm really excited!

Jasper, stopping and thinking, probably about how ridiculously cute he is:We played this song in the car and Frankie (now 3 years young) pointed out that it was indeed, Lykke Li, with correct pronunciation and everything! I'll never listen to this song the same way again.

Things are much better after some turbulence.

-Get in shape/drop some poundage before summertime

Reprise

Currently Listening to:
Grizzly Bear - Reprise

Last night the Brooklyn Philharmonic presented Grizzly Bear (with Final Fantasy) at the Howard Gilman Opera House. Last year I got to see Joanna Newsom at this series and it was probably the best show I've ever had the chance to enjoy. Grizzly Bear was just as incredible:

The music was re-written for orchestral compostion by Nico Muhly, who studied at Julliard and worked under Phillip Glass(!). Muhly has done many film scores, the most recent being The Reader (one of my favorites). He was performing on stage with the band at the piano.

Grizzly Bear's vocal harmonies are entrancing, and backed by the BP, conducted by Michael Christie, the whole ensemble was really breathtaking. The sound was set perfectly and the bass was deep enough to be felt in the soul. The theatre was as beautiful as I remembered and the whole evening felt surreal. Trey and I sat in row CC, third row from the stage in the orchestra pit.

There were a few moments when Edward Drost and Daniel Rossen's vocal crescendo was backed by the orchestra and I felt really emotional.

Photography was prohibited (and rightfully so), and I'm still waiting for more pictures of Grizzly Bear with the Brooklyn Philharmonic to surface.

Edit: They surfaced. These are from Ryan Muir for stereogum.com.

Final Fantasy with Nico Muhly in the back:Grizzly Bear with the BP:Ed Drost:Chris Bear:Chris Taylor with Nico Muhly:BP, Deborah Wong, orchestra principal:Nico Muhly, composing genious:Howard Gilman Opera House:Ed Drost with Michael Christie:Daniel Rossen:Daniel Rossen with the orchestra:BP:Michael Christie, love of my life and conductor of the Brooklyn Philharmonic:I'm looking forward to Brooklyn Academy of Music's next indie collaboration.

I'm also look forward to seeing Grizzly Bear again at Town Hall in May.
